Effective Solutions for Joint Pain – Part 2

September 29, 2016

Joint pain happens to everyone! Sure, it might happen a bit less for some people, but everyone gets to deal with it at some point. Whether you slept on your leg wrong or joint pain is always around no matter what you do, there are some things you can do to reduce it or eliminate it altogether. At Houston Gym, we want to empower each and every one of our community members to live life to the fullest, whatever activity level that means to them. That is why we’re sharing some good tips for keeping joints happy!

  • Nobody likes it, but the fact is, being able to work out day after day is better than being Hercules for one day and laid up the rest. That means you can’t break yourself each time you work out. Instead, listen to your body. If it’s giving you signals that a joint is having trouble, slow down. We recommend doubling the time you take to warm up a troubled joint. Really give it a chance to get totally ready for activity.
  • What if the joint still hurts after all that careful warming up? That means the issue may be a bit more extensive than you thought. Don’t get worried; just cut your workout intensity by 50% and see what that does. If the joint continues to have trouble, back off the general activity and focus on strengthening the joint to renew its mobility. It can be frustrating, but it will pay off in the long run (pun intended).

Watch what you eat

  • If you lead an active lifestyle, chances are good you pay a bit more attention to what you eat than the Average Joe. This is a good thing! Studies have shown that your digestive system can impact your joints. Obviously-traceable symptoms are most common in extreme situations, like when someone has Crohn’s disease or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Between 16 and 30 percent of people with these conditions have arthritis. This shows that your gut plays a central role in the functionality of the rest of your body. Taking the time to ensure that you’re giving it the right ingredients is always worth it!

The team at Houston Gym has experienced our share of aches and pains, and we are passionate about coming alongside people and helping them move forward. Whether you suffer from joint pain or not, there are ways to be happily active. Let us show you!
